New Technology at WPD
Posted Date:
11/8/2013
Over the past two days Officers of the WPD have received training on the new Axon Body Camera System. We are all excited to be a part of seeing this agency move forward with the latest technology, new policies, aggressive training and a team that we are proud of. Your officers are doing an excellent job. Effective immediately, our officers will be equipped with these body cameras which is part of our vision to rebuild and show transparency to the citizens that we serve. These cameras will protect both officers and the community.

We have built out an entire policy for the use of these cameras. As with any other new product we will provide our officers a reasonable time period to become familiar with the merchandise. If changes are needed in the application or policy we will address those accordingly.

For those of you concerned about personal identification being kept and stored for long periods of time we have built out internal purging timelines to ensure we are being responsible to those issues. The videos will be activated for law enforcement actions.

I want to thank the Windermere Residents, Town Council and our Officers for their support in this camera project. We have received tremendous support from everyone that we have spoken to about integrating this kind of technology.

If you would like to watch a short video of the product check it out here:
