PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 11/14/12
TOWN OF WINDERMERE SELECTS ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN DAVID OGDEN AS POLICE CHIEF
At the November 13th meeting, Town Council unanimously voted to move forward with offering the vacant Police Chief position to OCSO Capt. David Ogden.
“Captain Ogden came highly recommended by various local Law Enforcement Agencies as well as from members of our community. His record with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as well as his work within the community and local charitable organizations demonstrates the qualities which we would look for in a Police Chief. His leadership and community policing philosophy will ensure that the Department will continue to move forward where McCoy, Massie, and Brown left off. This has been a long and arduous process but Capt. Ogden is the right man for the job. In addition, our thanks go out to Sheriff Demings for his continued support during this transitional period.” said Town Manager Robert Smith.
Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn said, “I believe the Town of Windermere and the Council have made an excellent choice is selecting Capt. Ogden. He brings a great deal of experience and professionalism to the job.”
“As a manager, I understand that I set the foundation for a positive work climate, influence my personnel, and motivate the team in accomplishing agency goals. I am a strong believer in a team concept, with individual responsibility and accountability. I believe in the community policing model for success and have a proven track record for positive change. I welcome the opportunity to utilize my unique background, training, leadership, and experience as we move through contract negotiations with the Windermere Police Department.” Said Capt. David Ogden
The Town Manager has been instructed to negotiate a contract with Capt. Ogden and a start date has yet to be established but the preference would be in early January.
